Looking back over some very tragic events in our world this year, let’s pause in the moment and ponder this question.
Do you serve time, or does time serve you?
With the holidays here, it can take a toll on our already busy lives. There are more meals to prepare, family get togethers, church services, shopping, all kinds of things we need to “fit into” our already busy schedules.
I personally believe when we say we are too busy, it’s just a code word for fear.
The fear may not be conscious but if we dig in a little bit, I think it makes sense. The fear is that if I make that meal, then something else has to give. If I go to that family get together, then I can’t do XYZ. Rather, let’s make choices based on our priorities for balance in our life.
This is a great time of year to just take a step back and ask yourself, what’s really important. Is doing that extra day of shopping for presents more important than spending the day with your kids or your parents?
Only you can decide.
The other thing to keep in mind is that you often times don’t need to choose. It doesn’t need to be “either or”. I like to ask the question “how do I do both with the same amount of time?”. The answer is many times asking for assistance. Or perhaps it’s letting go of something that isn’t really all that important.
Do you serve time or does time serve you?
Your family, your friends, the people you love and care about, helping people in need, spending time in prayer-these are things keep you in your conscious heart space and if they take precedence over shopping for one more gift or hanging one more ornament, ask yourself “ What is the best thing that could happen?”
It’s up to you to decide but make the decision proactively and consciously rather than out of fear or reaction.
Wishing you and your families a blessed holiday season.
