Did you ever feel like the odd bird and not know exactly why? I am sure we can all relate. Being an ‘odd bird’ may be a wonderful attribute, it has lead to great innovation, art and positive change for the world. I am asking you to go to the place or time when it does not feel productive, you may feel out of place, sync, disengaged or even rejected. What do you do then?
Being and entrepreneur is a balancing act of your personal, professional and business development.
“You’ll get mixed up, of course, as you already know. You’ll get mixed up with many strange birds as you go. So be sure when you step. Step with care and great tact and remember that Life’s a Great Balancing Act. Just never forget to be dexterous and deft. And never mix up your right foot with your left.” ― Dr. Seuss, Oh, The Places You’ll Go!
As I read the news and listen to the rhetoric, today, many people are feeling pressure of a volatile and unstable economy. We live in a time of economic uncertainty. In other words, many people have lost confidence and are feeling the pressure of an unknown future because of their environment.
During times like these, many people become paralyzed and fearful. Not so long ago, you couldn’t lose money even if you tried. Today there is so much volatility that one day you can have hope and the next you feel completely deflated. Confidence is at an all time low.
The challenge of leadership as an entrepreneur is to find confidence and hope during times of trouble. And as Dr. Suess states,….just never forget to be dexterous and deft. And never mix up your right foot with your left.
I always say, ‘If you are in business you are in the people business.” To be effective as a leader of people, you are first the leader of yourself and then of others. You must invest in yourself for your own personal development to have confidence in the face your fears..many call this courage. How you do this looks different for everyone, but, one common thread is surrounding yourself with those who have the attributes to which you aspire and making the time to take action. Tony Robbins, has a favorite quote of mine, “action takes you out of doubt”
We are doubting humans. Actually, no matter where you find yourself, there may be times that you will doubt. You may lose faith that its possible for you to ever get there. So what’s the solution?
Go back to the basics, in your personal, professional and business development, by clearly defining your Mission, Vision and Core Values. When you have clarity and certaintly about your purpose and beliefs, you will have confidence. This is an energy forcefield that creates confidence in others.
Your authentic confidence, will allow you to empower others you lead to be leaders, they will begin to see opportunities that were previously unavailable to them. Think about it. If you have confidence and instill confidence in others that a better future is just around the corner, people will take action and begin to grow a team that will transform their bank accounts and yours as well.
The latest Marketplace-Edison Research poll shows Americans’ stress over their personal financial situation building even before Brexit. We asked basic questions about, for example, household budgets, family vacations and paying bills. Americans’ responses showed that, in May, our country’s anxiety level climbed to its highest point since the beginning of our poll.
Here are a couple of things Americans told us:
More of them are losing sleep over their financial situation: 32 percent now compared with 28 percent in September 2015.
They are less confident that they could find a new job within six months if they were to lose their current job: 41 percent are very confident about finding a new job now compared with 46 percent in September 2015.
When confidence is low in tough economic times, the opportunity is great for those that can lead with confidence and a plan for a brighter future. Today, over 70% of the adult population is concerned about their financial future. The opportunity for you to grow as a leader is greater as you help to restore faith in others and their belief that things will get better.
That is the challenge that represents our greatest opportunity.
So if you are not growing personally as fast as you would like, “Step with care and great tact and remember that Life’s a Great Balancing Act.” Take action that will secure your personal development as a confident leader and your professional and business development will certainly benefit.
I believe your paycheck is a direct result of the number of people you add value to, and the number of those people you lead through a duplicatable business model that contributes to the world. When you create mutually beneficial confident and authentic personal and professional relationships, just imagine the place you can go!
